Housing

Brownfield sites will not deliver the amount of housing needed on their own. Bristol cannot meet the planning requirement of a 5-year housing land supply for housing, taking into account all appropriate and available brownfield sites, and other sites such as Brislington Meadows.

Homes England has no commercial interest in the estate and has purchased Brislington Meadows based on its allocation for housing under the local plan. The trading estate provides valued jobs and is well-used.

We can’t comment on the 12,000 specifically but we know that Bristol does not currently have a five-year housing supply (a Government requirement) and that the need is significant. 16,000 households are currently on the housing waiting list and over 1,000 are in temporary accommodation. It is estimated that the city needs to build around 85,000 homes over the next 15 years. Brownfield sites alone will not meet the identified need.
